Acro dancer holding a controlled balance pose at Ontario School of Ballet, Toronto

Acro classes are designed to create a well-balanced acrobat and are a wonderful addition to other dance training! Students will learn elements of flexibility, strength, balance, tumbling and contortion. All Acro classes are taught by certified teachers and examinations are available through Acrobatic Arts.

Acro blends dance technique with acrobatic skill, and it is where many of our dancers discover just how strong they really are. At the Ontario School of Ballet, acro is taught as a dance discipline first: control, line and artistry matter just as much as the tricks.

What students learn in acro class

Acro classes build core strength, flexibility, balance and body awareness. Dancers progress from foundational skills like bridges, cartwheels and handstands toward walkovers, aerials and connected acrobatic sequences, always with proper conditioning and spotting. Because skills are introduced progressively, students gain confidence safely and celebrate real, visible milestones throughout the year.

How acro fits into a dancer's training

Acro students at our school must also be enrolled in ballet and/or jazz. That is deliberate: acrobatic skills sit on top of dance technique, and dancers with strong ballet or jazz foundations learn acro faster and more safely. Our 2026-2027 acro program runs from Junior levels through Pre-Intermediate, Intermediate, Advanced and Teen/Senior streams, with invitation-only classes for advanced acrobats.

Acro classes at our Toronto studios

Acro runs at both locations, 1133 St Clair Avenue West in St Clair West and 504 Oakwood Avenue in Oakwood Village, taught by accredited educators who keep classes small so every skill is properly supervised. Acro also adds standout versatility for dancers interested in our performance and competitive opportunities.

See the schedule above for acro classes by age, and remember to pair acro with a ballet or jazz class when you register.
