Ballet, a revered art form, builds strength and abilities through beautiful music and foundational movements. Students develop self-control, body awareness, and discipline, mastering technical moves. Ontario School of Ballet offers Royal Academy of Dance exams from Pre-Primary to Solo Seal levels.

Ballet is the foundation of everything we do at the Ontario School of Ballet. Since 1979, our Toronto studios have introduced thousands of children to their first plie and guided serious students all the way to pre-professional training. Whether your child is trying ballet for the first time or working toward advanced levels, there is a clear place for them here.

What students learn in ballet class

Ballet classes build posture, coordination, musicality, discipline and strength in a structured, encouraging environment. Younger dancers learn the building blocks of classical technique through barre work, centre practice and simple choreography. As students progress, classes introduce more demanding technique, artistry and performance skills, with pointe work added at the appropriate level under careful supervision.

A clear path from first steps to advanced training

Our 2026-2027 ballet program runs as graded streams, so every dancer trains with students at their own level. Graded classes move from Grade 2 through Grade 5, and dedicated Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) classes run from Junior and Pre-Intermediate through Teen and Senior levels. Committed students can continue into Intermediate Foundation, Intermediate and Advanced streams, where classes run two to three times per week and include pointe classes. Placement is based on age and experience, and our teachers guide each family on the right stream for their dancer.

Why families choose our ballet school

All classes are taught by expert accredited dance educators, and limited class sizes mean every dancer gets real attention at the barre. Ballet students train at both of our Toronto studios, in St Clair West at 1133 St Clair Avenue West and in Oakwood Village at 504 Oakwood Avenue. Dancers also have opportunities to perform and to be considered for our competitive programs as they grow.

Yes. Alongside our graded ballet classes, we run dedicated Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) streams from Junior and Pre-Intermediate through Teen and Senior levels at our Toronto studios.

Pointe is introduced at the Intermediate Foundation level, once a dancer's teacher confirms they have the strength and technique to begin safely. Dancers at this level train multiple times per week, which builds the foundation pointe work requires.

Dancers follow our studio dress code, which keeps classes focused and helps teachers see and correct technique. You can find the full uniform requirements for each level on our uniform page.
