What students learn in ballet class

Ballet classes work on posture, coordination, musicality and strength in a structured class. Younger dancers learn the building blocks of classical technique through barre work, centre practice and simple choreography. As students move up the levels, classes add more demanding technique, artistry and performance skills, and pointe classes begin at the Intermediate Foundation level.

Ballet classes for ages 3 to 6

Our youngest ballet dancers start with Creative Dance at age three, followed by Basic Ballet at four, Pre-Primary Ballet at five and Primary Ballet at six. These early classes meet once a week on Saturdays and Sundays at both of our studios. Two-year-olds can start with our Little Dancer Workshop.

Ballet levels for every stage of training

From age seven, graded ballet runs from Grade 1 to Grade 5 and meets twice a week at our St Clair West studio. Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) classes run at our Oakwood Village studio: RAD Junior/Pre-Intermediate Ballet for ages 8 to 11 and RAD Teen/Senior Ballet for ages 12 and up, both twice a week. From age 12, the Intermediate Foundation, Intermediate and Advanced levels are by invitation and meet three times a week, and pointe classes are scheduled for Intermediate Foundation Ballet A and B and Advanced 1A Ballet.

Ballet class schedule by age (2026-2027)

Ages are based on the year your dancer was born. Classes marked invite only are by invitation, and graded and upper-level classes meet two or three times a week, as listed.

What to wear to ballet class

Ballet dancers wear a Mondor leotard in the colour for their level: True Pink for Creative Dance to Grade 2, Paradise for Grades 3 to 5, and Navy for Intermediate Foundation and up. They also wear pink or flesh-tone ballet tights with matching ballet slippers. Boys wear white split-sole ballet shoes, black tights or bike shorts, a white t-shirt and white socks. Ballet classes at both Toronto studios

Ballet runs at our St Clair West studio at 1133 St Clair Avenue West and our Oakwood Village studio at 504 Oakwood Avenue. Early years ballet runs at both studios, graded ballet runs at St Clair West, and the RAD classes run at Oakwood Village. All classes are taught by expert accredited dance educators, and limited class sizes allow for individual attention.
