This popular and dynamic style is enjoyable for any dancer who just wants to get moving! Students have the opportunity to work towards ADAPT examinations or can come along to classes for their own enjoyment. Lessons are taught by experienced and encouraging instructors.
Jazz at the Ontario School of Ballet is energetic, technical and a whole lot of fun. It is one of our most popular programs, and for good reason: jazz builds strong, versatile dancers who love being in the studio.
What students learn in jazz class
Jazz classes develop strength, flexibility, rhythm and style. Dancers work on kicks, leaps, turns and isolations, then put technique to work in upbeat choreography that changes throughout the year. Because jazz draws on ballet technique while adding its own dynamics and personality, many of our students train in both and find that each discipline strengthens the other.
Jazz levels for every age and stage
Our 2026-2027 jazz program includes classes for every stage of training. Junior classes introduce proper technique in an age-appropriate way, Pre-Intermediate and Intermediate streams add more complex combinations and stronger technical demands, and Advanced and Teen/Senior classes challenge experienced dancers with professional-calibre material. Several upper-level classes train twice per week, and invitation-only streams recognize dancers who are ready for a faster pace.
Jazz classes at both Toronto studios
Jazz runs at our St Clair West studio at 1133 St Clair Avenue West and our Oakwood Village studio at 504 Oakwood Avenue, taught by accredited dance educators who keep classes small enough to coach every dancer individually. Students who fall in love with jazz also have opportunities to perform and to audition for our competitive dance team.
