What the Little Dancer Workshop is

The Little Dancer Workshop is the very first step on the Ontario School of Ballet pathway, created for two-year-olds (children born in 2024 for the 2026-2027 season). Each 45-minute class introduces our youngest dancers to music, movement and the studio itself through imaginative play, simple rhythm games and easy steps that build coordination and confidence. Classes run in 7-week sessions, so families can try a short block rather than commit to a full year.

What your child will learn

At this age, dance is about discovery. Little Dancers learn to listen and move to music, follow simple directions, take turns, and use their bodies with growing control and balance. They practise basic skills like marching, skipping, stretching and jumping, and they begin to understand the routines of a dance class: where to stand, when to watch and when to move. Just as importantly, they learn that the studio is a happy place to be, which makes every class that follows easier.

Little Dancer Workshop times and locations

For 2026-2027, the Little Dancer Workshop runs on weekend mornings at both of our Toronto studios. At our Oakwood Village studio (504 Oakwood Avenue), sessions run Saturdays from 9:00 to 9:45 and Sundays from 10:00 to 10:45. At our St Clair West studio (1133 St Clair Avenue West), sessions run Sundays from 10:00 to 10:45 and from 11:00 to 11:45. Each workshop is led by one of our accredited dance educators, and small class sizes mean every child gets gentle, individual attention.

Where Little Dancers go next

When your child turns three, the natural next step is Creative Dance, followed by Basic Ballet and Pre-Primary Jazz/Tap at age four. From there, dancers move into our graded ballet, jazz, tap, hip hop and acro programs. Since 1979 the Ontario School of Ballet has guided Toronto children from their very first class to advanced training, and many of our senior dancers started exactly here.
