Made popular during the 20th Century, this appealing dance style still has its place in the modern world. Mastering this style of dance can help with coordination, rhythm, musicality and agility. Classes are designed to suit student abilities and are always enjoyable! Students can work towards ADAPT Tap exams.
There is nothing quite like a room full of tap shoes. Tap at the Ontario School of Ballet turns rhythm into an instrument, and it remains one of the most joyful classes in our Toronto studios.
What students learn in tap class
Tap teaches timing, musicality, coordination and agility. Starting with basic shuffles and flaps, dancers build a vocabulary of steps and learn to string them into rhythmic combinations, developing speed and clarity as they go. Because tap dancers are effectively percussionists, students sharpen their ear for music in a way that benefits every other dance style they study.
Tap levels and ADAPT exams
Classes are designed to suit student abilities at every stage, from Junior levels through Pre-Intermediate, Teen, Intermediate and Advanced streams in our 2026-2027 season. Students who want a goal to work toward can prepare for ADAPT tap exams, a recognized syllabus that gives dancers clear milestones and honest feedback on their progress.
Tap classes in St Clair West and Oakwood Village
Tap classes run at our studios at 1133 St Clair Avenue West and 504 Oakwood Avenue, taught by accredited dance educators in small classes where every dancer's footwork gets heard. Many families pair tap with ballet or jazz to build a well-rounded dancer, and our timetable is designed to make combining classes easy.
